Top Six ThunderBolt Products Needed ASAP

So MoD has just directed a family member to purchase a brand new MacBook Air 13inch. And the machine is awesome. If there was a 15 inch version out right now, MoD would have serious problems not purchasing that device. There is one issue that might stop me. Lack of Thunderbolt products.  So along those lines to make the MacBook Airs the best laptops on the planet what do we need from Thunderbolt.

1. Native Thunderbolt portable backup drive in both conventional HD format and SSD format. Drives would have a second Thunderbolt port on the back for daisy chaining.

2. Firewire 800/USB 3.0  Thunderbolt Dongle. Combined one or a USB 3.0 one and a separate Firewire 800 one.

3. Portable Thunderbolt docking station- 1 Thunderbolt port, 1 Firewire 800 port, 1 video port.

4. Dual external monitor dongle – 1 mini display port, one HDMI,

5. Desktop Thunderbolt docking station – 1 Thunderbolt port, 1 Firewire 800 port, 1 video port, 3 usb ports, power adapter. Dual monitor support out of the box. The non monitor version of Apple’s upcoming Thunderbolt display.

6. Thunderbolt Flash Drive – It would be pricey, but a great way to provide speed and flexibility. With Lion only needed about 4 gigs of space, a 16 or 32 GB Flash drive could provide a complete backup bootable solution for various issues.

With these kinds of expansion capabilities added to the Thunderbolt equipped Macs (especially portable Macs), Apple could have another significant advantage over their PC manufacturer counterparts. Some of these options make so much sense that Apple should bring them to market to ensure these products are available for their high margin Macs.
